Bylaws and Code of Ethics

The Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame was founded to promote truth, honor and integrity in the martial arts and to recognize those exceptional individuals who through dedication and professionalism exude these standards.

Induction into the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame is a privilege and honor that carries with it certain responsibilities and rules of conduct. In order to maintain the integrity of our organization all inductees, members and associates of the hall of fame are required to conduct themselves under the following guidelines.

UMAHoF Code of Conduct and Ethics

Be professional at times. Hall of Fame members, associates and honorees are expected to conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism at all times.

  1. Maintain strong personal ethics. Personal integrity and honor are the cornerstones of the martial arts. Without them, the arts are just about violence. But combined with strong personal ethics and a code of honor the arts become much more. All members, inductees and associates of the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame are expected to conduct themselves with high moral standards in their personal and professional lives.
  2. Always show respect for others. Respect for others is an integral part of the martial arts and is the key element in bringing people together and creating harmony and unity within the arts. Always show respect for everyone especially fellow martial artists regardless of style, experience or level skill.
  3. Present the martial arts in a positive way. If the martial arts are to prosper it is imperative that its practitioners always endeavor to present themselves and the arts in a positive light. Crude language and unprofessional or violent behavior only reinforce the negative stereotypes about the kind of people who study the arts. Always think about the type of image you are conveying through your appearance, words or actions and strive to set an example for others to follow.
  4. Help your fellow martial artists. The Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame was created to recognize the achievements of great martial artists everywhere and to help truth, honor and integrity in the arts. But it was also created to help bring people together and create harmony and unity. Members are expected to show solidarity by always being willing to help each other whenever possible.
  5. Help support your Hall of Fame. The Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame relies heavily on its sponsors, honorees and associates for support both financially and publicly. Those who can contribute financially are encouraged to do so on a regular basis. Those with fewer resources are encouraged to offer support through volunteer work, promotion of the yearly events and by spreading the word about the organization.

Code of Conduct Violations

The following can represent specific violations of Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame bylaws. Intentional violations of these rules will result in expulsion and reversal of your induction.

  1. Unprofessional attitudes or actions. One of the problems with the martial arts today is that like any large industry a percentage of the people involved are (by conduct, words or actions) - unprofessional. Unprofessional or undisciplined behavior is a sure way to create a lasting negative image of the martial arts and the kind of people who study them. This has a profound effect on us all. As a result, the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame will not tolerate unprofessional or disrespectful behavior in any form.
  2. Integrity and ethics violations. These can range from lying on resumes or submitting false rank certifications to bouncing checks for induction fees or services to more serious violations. Because such actions are indicative of a person’s character and values - personal integrity violations are considered the most serious and most often result in immediate and permanent expulsion from the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
  3. Personal conduct violations. Personal conduct violations include any immoral or criminal behavior. All members, inductees and associates are required to conduct themselves in a lawful, honorable and respectful manner at all times.

Forfeiture of Induction

Intentional violation of these rules will result the offender forfeiting his induction and the removal of the individuals name from all Hall of Fame records. Further, the violator will be banned from all future Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame events.
